I love drawing. I've been making comics and cartoons since I was 9 years old, and when I am not working on my comics (e.g. The Artist and His Brain), I continually make new drawings in my free time as well as freelance illustration work. I have compiled many of my personal and commissioned digital works from 2018 onwards here in order for this page to act as a personal portfolio. I also offer art commissions; information about those can be found on my Twitter/X and Ko-fi.
Drawings I have made as commissions will have a blue label on them.
I have categorized my art by the year I drew/released them in and are ordered from newest to oldest. Click on a drawing to view a larger version, and hover over the picture to view some information about it!

I had a paper and pencil in front of me since I was teaching and my students were working on a project, so I quickly drew this beach scene. It's not the cleanest drawing I've made, and I certainly could have used a reference for some of the elements, but overall, I feel like this turned out well!
Release date: April 5, 2025
Late one night, I was trying to convince myself to go to bed (and failing), and in the midst of that, I came up with the idea for this drawing. I drafted it that night, went to bed, and finished it the next day. It features my original character, Ralph, asleep. In this drawing, I also employed a new drawing technique for me: directional shading for lighting. To demonstrate that the window is to the right of the frame, I added additional shadows to darken areas further away from the window, creating pseudo-directional lighting. I plan to experiment more with this in future illustrations.

One “ordinary” day, two kids partake in an arm wrestling competition. Who will win? Will it be a struggle or an instant domination?
This fan art of Nichijou (My Ordinary Life) certainly was a lot of fun to draw! I had wanted to make this for so long, and I immediately knew which scene I had to redraw: the infamous arm-wrestling match between Yukko and Mai. Naturally, I had to include Mio somewhere, as, technically, she was their (unwilling) referee. I tried to capture each girl's personality in this drawing: Yukko is fired up and ready to play, Mai doesn't react much to anything, and Mio doesn't really want to be there. I enjoyed drawing this one, and as I keep reading Nichijou, I'm sure I'll find more scenes and characters to redraw. After all, I haven't drawn Nano or the Professor yet.

This is another personal piece, one I did not publish publicly because I didn't want people to needlessly worry about me. I instead posted this on my private account for close friends to see. It is a self-portrait showing my longing and desire to know what God has planned for me in the future, especially as, in the moment, I felt like my life had basically halted.
I am feeling better, in case you were wondering.

I wanted to update the artwork and logo for The Artist and His Brain in 2025, since the previous art and logo were looking outdated. I spent some time in my designer program coming up with a new logo, and I think this new, dynamic logo projects the comic's personality better than the previous, static one did. Naturally, I also wanted to draw a new pose for Ian and Brain to reflect any style changes the comic went through, so I came up with this stupid idea of Ian holding up his Apple Pencil like it was the Master Sword or something. Brain, of course, is unamused.
Release date: February 27, 2025
I drew this artwork when I felt like I was floating around aimlessly in the world, wondering when the next part of my calling would begin. I illustrated this by showing myself floating in the clouds, not really sure if I was going to fall down.
I eventually fell back into my senses.
Release date: February 14, 2025
I personally don't celebrate Valentine's Day, but I wanted to draw something for those who do. Thus, I drew my original characters, Lenny and Maia, dressed up nicely and on a date.
Romantic, isn't it?

Live and Learn!
In honor of the movie Sonic the Hedgehog 3 releasing digitally, I released this drawing of the iconic intro scene from Sonic Adventure 2 Battle on the Nintendo GameCube. In the game's intro, Sonic and Shadow run toward each other and pose in front of the full moon before the title logo appears. After all, every Sonic artist should draw this at least once in their lives, and I hadn't done that yet. I tried to make it a combination of the best elements from all the different versions of the pose in front of the moon throughout the years (there are four or five of them now).

Getting in one last fanart for the year, I wanted to draw Knuckles enjoying the winter on his home, Angel Island. The picture is inspired by IceCap Zone, the winter-themed level in Sonic 3 & Knuckles where Sonic typically snowboards down a hill to reach an ice cave.
Release date: December 12, 2024
"Winter time's fun, and it's even better with friends!"
In honor of winter and Christmas coming up, I like to draw winter-themed artwork, even if I don't actually live in a temperate climate. Still, snow is beautiful, and drawing snow is a lot of fun. I also wanted to draw my characters enjoying the snow, which resulted in this picture. I painted some falling snow overlaying the image, erasing the parts over important details of the characters so that they were still visible. Lenny and Maia (the two in front) are actually holding hands for the very first time, while Ralph got stuck carrying Clover piggyback. Whoops.
Release date: December 10, 2024
The time has come again (or has passed, if you're reading this past 2024) to celebrate Christmas, so I drew this profile picture. It's an annual tradition to draw a new profile picture for Christmas, and for this year, I wanted to emphasize the Christian celebration. Since Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, I am holding a Bible with a decorated tree in the background. Christ is born, praise the Lord!

The YouTube Channel The Computer Clan made a video discussing the Memorex BoomBall (and other products) which was released in the 2000s. It became a documentary about Memorex's history and product lines throughout the years, one event occuring being a lawsuit between IBM and Memorex over competitive practices and product design. To illustrate this in a comedic fashion, TCC commissioned me to make the fight between IBM and Memorex styled after the results of a boxing match.
This is the first image, with the referee prepared to declare which opponent (between IBM and Memorex) as the winner.

Originally, I did not intend to draw anything for Thanksgiving, as I had drawn SO many Thanksgiving pictures in the past, but I suddenly got the idea for this drawing and decided to go for it. I am staring at a delicious turkey along with the two characters I made that are known heavy eaters, those being Jackson Reid (from Wausau and Jackson) and Chumpkin (a weirdo I made up about 10 years ago for a video game that isn't publicly released anymore...). Naturally, Brain is in the background judging all of us, but hey, it's all for giving thanks, right?

Who says you can't have fun while raking leaves?
It's officially autumn, or fall, the season where the leaves turn bright colors and fall off the trees in the United States (I'm sure they do in other parts of the world, too, but cut me some slack—I'm American!). I wanted to do something simple for my homage to this season, where the weather gets a bit colder, but you still have to go outside and rake all the leaves. Why not have some fun with it? I also wanted to break away from the cliché "character rakes leaves into a pile only for someone else to jump into the pile and undo the whole thing" bit. I thought this would be a better, more wholesome take on leaf raking.

“Maria, wait!!”
“Shadow…remember! Give them a chance…to be happy!”
Inspired once more by Sonic X Shadow Generations: Dark Beginnings, episode 3 in particular, I drew what would happen in spacetime if Shadow saw Maria again. Maria and Shadow were basically siblings; that's how close they were when she was alive. With Shadow struggling to keep his emotions in check, in Dark Beginnings, images flashed in his mind of what life would be like on Earth if Maria wasn't shot, and it nearly causes him to break down. I wanted to capture the emotions Shadow may feel when Sonic X Shadow Generations ends…it could be rough.
Release date: October 12, 2024
“Maria…the low gravity only keeps your condition in remission. You shouldn’t exert yourself.”
“Sorry…sometimes I just can’t help it.”
I was inspired by the recent Sonic X Shadow Generations: Dark Beginnings animations, specifically regarding the relationship between Shadow and Maria. I always found Shadow's backstory emotional, despite the games not being able to present the story without massive quirks in the past (especially Shadow's own game). Now, though, Dark Beginnings seems to have done it properly, and I can't get over how emotional it is. This is inspired by the first episode.

With the news that the manga series My Hero Academia had ended, I wanted to draw a piece of fanart for the manga/anime as a sort of sendoff for the series. It took longer than I thought due to its complexity, not being familiar with the characters, and starting a job around the time I first sketched this. In a way, this is also sort of a "then and now" situation, as I started watching MHA close to when it first released and drew fanart back then of the characters Izuku Midoriya (Deku) and Ochaco Uraraka (Uravity). It felt fitting to draw the two again in their final costumes and to see how my artistic skills have improved since that original sketch. I played around with the background to establish the tone/kind of quirk each character had, with electricity representing how Midoriya powers up All for One and bubbles representing Uraraka's antigravity quirk.

One day, I stumbled on a summer Mega Man fan-art contest run by a user on Tumblr named Rock Miyabi, and there was still a week left before the contest closed at the time. I quickly began work on two pieces, one for each of the two categories, and submitted them. The contest results came out on the 6th of September, and sadly, I did not place in either category. However, all the artists did a fantastic job.
This art is for the first category, Palette Pastiche. The idea was to imitate a popular art piece or period of artwork and parody it with Mega Man characters. I chose to parody "American Gothic" by Grant Wood using Dr. Wily and Bass. Originally I was going to draw them in front of the same house as the original picture, but I realized it would be even funnier if the background was one of the many Wily Castles throughout the series. I feel this is the weaker of the two contest entries (so I wasn't surprised it didn't place), but I still had fun with it.

However, all the artists did a fantastic job.
This art is for the second category, Pirate Humor. Simply put, take any of the various pirate characters in the Mega Man series (or any other character dressed as a pirate) and have them ruin someone's day in their quest for buried treasure or other pirate shenanigans. I figured having pirates interrupt a nice family picnic with Dr. Light, Rock, Roll, and the rest of the crew (sans Auto, who I completely> forgot about...) would be a hilarious thing to happen. While I didn't place, the host of the contest did appreciate the little details, like Dr. Light's irritated expression and Beat being buried "up to his ankles" (akin to how Garfield buries Odie in the sand).

I sat down one day and wondered what Sonic would do if he had the Chaos Emeralds and didn't have to deal with Dr. Eggman trying to take over the world or some other threat looming over him. I bet that he would take a joyride around and beyond the world at warp speed. Naturally, this is what I drew as a response to that thought.

I was feeling stressed one day, and I knew it had been too long since I finished an illustration apart from commissions, so I pulled up Procreate on my iPad and started a new project. The first thing I thought of was painting an ocean with deep blues, so I picked a brush that looked okay and started working. Because it calmed me down and honestly made me happier after finishing it, I decided to name it "Serenity."

The YouTube channel The Computer Clan commissioned me to draw illustrations for their video on the Flip Phone's history and demise. The illustrations depict the investors in Cisco not being confident in the company's future as sales began dipping.
This is the second frame, showing the investors actually speaking. In the video, speech bubbles with the words "We're not confident!" are added to the image to act as dialogue.

Lineless art. What a chore, but man does it have a unique charm to it. I was inspired when one of my Twitter friends shared a lineless drawing she made, so I decided to give it a go. I had previously done lineless art for a frozen landscape, but I never did it for a character before today. Needless to say, it was a learning experience. I decided to go with Sonic since I wanted to try it first on a character I could almost draw with my eyes closed.
I certainly have plenty of room for improvement, but I'm not as intimidated by lineless art as I was before.
Release date: July 10, 2024
I wanted to draw more art of my characters having fun together, so I decided to draw them having lunch. Each dish represents the respective characters' personalities, and I wanted to make sure you could tell that they are having fun together, even if I typically draw Ralph irritated.

I have been replaying the Game Boy Mega Man games recently thanks to them being added to Switch Online's Game Boy app, and I've fallen in love with Mega Man III in particular. I felt inspired by its "Weapon Get" music and screen to draw my own "Weapon Get" image. While I drew Mega Man in Procreate, my drawing app of choice, the background was actually made in Affinity Designer, part of a software suite I purchased on sale to have pro design apps again, to make things easier to manage.
If I ever make a fangame based on Mega Man, I can definitely use this artwork for its screen.

RedHotSonic commissioned me to draw this Looney Tunes-styled thumbnail for his "Straight to the Point" video about Sonic 6, a Game Boy bootleg of a Speedy Gonzales game that replaced the titular character with Sonic the Hedgehog. The game's quality aside, I'm happy with how this thumbnail turned out.
RHS debated whether to use a purple or green Game Boy Color, ultimately choosing the green one. A version of the thumbnail exists with a purple Game Boy Color, but the difference is so minimal that it's not worth releasing in my opinion.

In honor of Sonic X Shadow Generations and Sonic Movie 3 coming out later this year, and in recognition of Sonic's 33rd anniversary, I drew this celebratory drawing. It pays homage to the box art for Sonic Adventure 2, with Sonic on one side and Shadow on the other. I'm happy with how this one turned out, especially since I didn't originally have a plan for the background.

I responded to a Twitter/X call from the tech YouTube channel Computer Clan asking for illustrators for their then-upcoming video. After some discussion and sharing samples, I was given the opportunity to draw two illustrations for their video about the Ai Pin. These illustrations depict a family sitting at a dinner table, first looking at the viewer with happy faces, then looking down at their phones without paying attention to each other. These illustrations were used to tell the backstory for the Ai Pin's creation.
This is the second illustration showing the family looking at their phones, not paying any attention to one another.

I had finished drawing and animating a bunch of The Artist and His Brain-related stuff, and I felt burnt out from drawing characters. I got the sudden idea to try a few digital paints in Procreate and just...do what I felt like doing. This ocean painting was the result. I'm really happy with it, and it was honestly...refreshing.
I'll see myself out now for that horrible pun.

I typically draw a new profile picture for myself each year with a specific theme. I nearly didn't make one this year, but inspiration struck me to draw myself doing what I love: drawing. The background is quite simple, but I feel that it works for what I wanted to draw. Because it's not tied to a specific theme, I may keep this profile pic for more than a year. I'm not sure yet.

"Hmm? What is it?"
I realized that I haven't done much art of my original characters recently, and the inspiration to create this piece hit me. Honestly, not much went into the thought process. I wanted to draw Maia, my lead female character, and play with the background a little bit. I felt I wanted to show how she'd react if someone special wanted to tell her something, maybe a love confession? (I know who it would be...) I tried some bokeh lights in the background, which turned out pretty well. All in all, I like how it turned out!

A user on Twitter challenged artists to draw Sonic the Hedgehog from memory, not using any references whatsoever. I took up that challenge, intending to just do a sketch of Sonic without a reference. However, once the sketch was finished, I liked it so much that I lined and colored it.

Between May 10 and 11, 2024, the northern hemisphere saw an aurora borealis thanks to a giant solar storm. However, I live in the southern hemisphere, so I couldn't see it. I did see many pictures that people took and posted of the aurora, so I tried to draw the aurora based on the pictures. I feel this turned out well!

A good friend of mine on Twitter/X shared an image of a dialogue box in Sonic Unleashed asking about the "big scary thing that emerged from the planet core" (Dark Gaia). However, one of the dialogue options was "Shadow the Hedgehog." I immediately imagined a giant Shadow the Hedgehog emerging from the planet core as Dark Gaia did, so in response, I drew that scene. People found it as funny as I did.

Why do I start with Burst Man sometimes in Mega Man 7?! I don't know, but I do know that his stage design and theme are really good. If I started playing the game with his stage, I would have a good first impression...until the boss, anyway. Regardless, I figured it would be funny to draw the fight because one of Burst Man's attacks is to shoot bubbles that can trap Mega Man, sending him up to the ceiling toward a bed of spikes (which kill him instantly). It reminded me of some cartoons I watched about Sonic 3's bubble shield, which inspired me to draw this.

On April 8th, North America experienced a solar eclipse. I was not in the line of totality, though some of my online friends were. Regardless, a nice chap at the church I was meeting at let my family use his eclipse glasses so we could see what was obscured on my side of the continent. It was incredible, but my phone couldn't take any decent pictures, so I decided to draw what I saw.
This version of the eclipse drawing features a blue sky to help the moon pop out more against the sky, but show the sun as it would appear if people could look at it without glasses on.

I recently began reading the Saint Tail manga (via a fan translation), and I am enjoying it so far! It's about a girl named Meimi Haneoka, a middle school student that becomes a phantom thief, Saint Tail, at night. She is constantly chased by fellow classmate and junior detective Asuka Jr., who has no idea who Saint Tail really is.
I first learned about the manga/anime from a close friend on Twitter who found the series and started watching the anime. I wanted to draw this tribute to the series, though I had to delay its release because I forgot to draw Ruby, Saint Tail/Meimi's pet hedgehog.

March 10 is considered Mario Day because if you write the abbreviation for March, "Mar," and stick the number 10 after it (MAR10), it looks like the name "Mario." Therefore, Nintendo's Super Mario gets the spotlight in this celebratory artwork.

Sonic 3 & Knuckles has an infamous trap in Carnival Night Zone: Act 2, lovingly called "the Barrel of Doom." There are red barrels throughout the zone that spin Sonic around, but near the middle of Act 2, Sonic and Tails get trapped in a room with the only escape route blocked by one of these barrels. Nothing about the game tells you that you have to press the D-pad up and down repeatedly to move the barrel enough for Sonic and Tails to escape, so for many kids, the journey ended here without a level select or older sibling who already knew.
Look at Knuckles all proud of himself back there. He knows exactly what he did.

I saw a render of Sonic from a Dreamcast magazine and thought it would be cool to recreate it as an official-style drawing. I've made drawings using Yuji Uekawa's shading style before, but this time around, I wanted to try mimicking the lineart as well. I think it turned out well.

One of the traditions I had in my Wausau and Jackson comic strips was that Jackson would build something out of snow, either by himself or with his friends. Though the series has concluded, I wanted to honor this tradition by drawing Jackson, his best friend Katie, and his other friend Josh making a snowmouse.

"I'm not very good at speeches..."
The Homestar Runner cartoon "A Death Defying Decemberween" is one of my favorite cartoons, and I just had to draw the mountain Homestar sleds down, the Steep Deep. Turns out it's actually very possible to sled down it, considering Homestar tried to stuff a mattress full of broken glass, hammers, and candy canes sucked on until they were all pointy.
Oh well.
Release date: December 8, 2023
I decided to step up from last year's Christmas photo by making a dedicated square crop with me posing in a wreath. I kept the traditional snowy background of my Christmas drawings as what's behind me in the wreath. I figured it would be a unique drawing.
Release date: December 1, 2023
For the first day of December, I wanted to draw something winter-themed. I also wanted to try an overhead perspective for drawing my characters. While I can improve on the next iteration, this attempt at overhead didn't feel as awkward as it could have been. I would call it a success.

The hero cast of the Mega Man games is one of my favorites primarily because they are all a large family. I wanted to draw them together, so I came up with the idea of having Dr. Light and his family of robots take a picture together. This picture includes Dr. Light, Rock (Mega Man), Roll, Rush, Beat, Eddie, Tango, and Auto.
Yes, I know that Beat is technically Dr. Cossack's creation, but he's as much a part of the Light family as Rock, Roll, and the others are.

I drew way too many drawings for Thanksgiving last year, but a friend of mine gave me the idea that I could draw the aftermath of the holiday after everyone had eaten. Simply put, I drew the two biggest eaters I've created, Chumpkin and Jackson, filled to the brim with Thanksgiving goodness. There was plenty of turkey and mashed potatoes to go around, so don't worry about others not getting enough.

Artist ChikoCheez, author of the webcomic Can't Buy Happiness, posted a challenge to his artist followers to redraw a panel from one of his recent comics. Naturally, I took that challenge and used Katie and Jackson as the replacements for Hazel and Sophie respectively.

"It's-a me, Mario!"
The first sound to greet you upon booting Super Mario 64 is Charles Martinet's iconic voice for the Italian plumber greeting the player. From that moment, I was hooked on Martinet's voice for Mario, so I wanted to honor that legacy (and how cool the game's title screen was) by drawing this scene from Super Mario 64.

While I may not know the direction I want to go yet with the group of original characters I have (from a series currently called "Highs and Lows"), I like to draw and write stories about them. This pretty much gives away one of the pairings I envisioned–Lenny Zook and Maia Worthy. I wanted to draw a casual day when these two are together.
This is the "10 Years Later..." variant.

Pluto is such an amazing planet. Yes, it's a planet. When the New Horizons probe sent back the close-up photos of Pluto that we only saw for the first time, I was amazed and perplexed. This was actually the moment that reignited my interest in astronomy. So I decided to honor this moment by drawing Pluto...while promptly goofing around by drawing Chumpkin visiting the planet.
Somebody get him a coat.

Sonic Adventure is one of the first video games I ever played (and the first one I ever beat), so to honor this, I drew the first level, Emerald Coast. The drawing is primarily based on the level's second act, where Sonic launches through a circular home through a rock formation to reach the final stretch. I also based the lighting and design on the graphics from the Dreamcast version of the game (later ports fouled up the graphics, to my distaste).
This is part of my Sonic Level Series artworks.

The music in the 8-bit (SEGA Master System and Game Gear) version of Sonic the Hedgehog is quite catchy, and there is no better way to display how catchy it is than the credits sequence. It features Sonic with a microphone singing and tapping his foot to the beat. I figured it would make a good scene to redraw, so here we are.

With the rise of AI-generated materials making its rounds on the Internet, I decided to publicly announce that I will never use AI to create my artwork. Everything I do is quite personal and hand-drawn and painted using Procreate on my iPad and Linearity Curve/Inkscape on my Mac. I will never use AI to generate artwork; I will hand-draw everything.
Release date: August 25, 2023
An artist I follow on Twitter, Mikayla a.k.a. Bubblepopspit, posted a drawing and asked her followers to redraw it in their personal styles. I meant to get this done a month ago, but because I was finishing university, I did not have much time to draw it. I finally finished it and posted it as a quote to her original Tweet.
Release date: August 23, 2023
Recently, Nintendo announced that the long-time voice actor of Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, and the baby versions of Mario and Luigi was stepping down as the official voices. He is now the Mario Ambassador, though Nintendo has yet to annouce what that actually means. In response to this news, I decided to draw a picture honoring Martinet's work and celebrating his achievements as the voice of Mario in partiuclar. The new voice actor(s) will have massive shoes to fill, but I feel they will do a good job. Regardless, thank you, Charles Martinet, for giving life to these classic and memorable characters!
Release date: August 8, 2023
I always found it funny that once people got to World 4-1 in Super Mario Bros., they were immediately bombarded by the eternal jerk that is Lakitu. This illustration, paired with a comic that takes place just before this moment, is my homage to this perilous moment.
Release date: August 8, 2023
When entering World 4-1...
I always found it funny that once people got to World 4-1 in Super Mario Bros., they were immediately bombarded by the eternal jerk that is Lakitu. This comic, paired with an illustration that shows the aftermath of this moment, is my homage to this perilous moment.
Release date: August 2, 2023
I taught a lesson on what hope means according to the Bible. This is an illustration I made to accompany this lesson.
Release date: July 29, 2023
"Before this is over, I'll show you the true power of Chaos Control!"
"Okay, Shadow, time for me to finish this!"
I intended to finish this for the 22nd anniversary of Sonic Adventure 2 in June, but I ran out of time. I took my time and finished it up anyway. This is based on the final battle between Sonic and Shadow in Sonic Adventure 2's storyline. Right as the Space Colony ARK is going to fire at the Earth again, Sonic and Shadow battle for the fate of the world.
Release date: June 25, 2023
On the last Sunday of my second internship, I preached a message about how God is shaping everyone to be in His service like canvasses of glory. This is the artwork I made to illustrate this point.
Release date: June 19, 2023
"Peaches, peaches, peaches peaches peaches..."
As a joke, I recorded a version of the "Peaches" song from The Super Mario Bros. Movie as my goofy character, Chumpkin, for my YouTube channel. It goes as well as one would expect.
Release date: June 17, 2023
Let's just say he lost a bet.
A few years ago, I drafted a drawing of Lenny and Maia (two of my original characters) in this goofy pose. I borrowed the idea from a prompt I found for people with original characters and art block, so...this is the finished result.
Release date: June 7, 2023
A few years ago, I drafted a sort of meme with my YouTube avatar ArtisIan comparing gaming in the past to today. The joke is that older games dropped you right into the action, but modern games are more cinematic, leaving a lot to be desired for the impatient. I reworked the draft to feature two of my original characters, Lenny and Ralph (left to right respectively) and finished it.
Release date: June 4, 2023
I preached a sermon based on the book of Nehemiah, using it as a lesson on rebuilding the relationships in our lives. This is the illustration I made as the cover for the sermon's outline presentation.
Release date: May 26, 2023
"Jack in! Roll.EXE, Transmit!"
After looking back on my drawing last month of Lan Hikari and MegaMan.EXE from Mega Man Battle Network, I felt I wanted to draw another set of characters that I admire from the series. Pictured are Mayl Sakurai (known in Japan as Meiru) and her NetNavi, Roll.EXE. Their family emblem sits in the background as the two strike a battle pose.
Release date: May 16, 2023
"Even on rainy days, there is beauty in the world."
I wanted to draw a scene in the rain because of a few reasons. One, I honestly feel calmer in the rain (as long as I have an umbrella, of course), and two, I wanted to try drawing reflections and light effects in that kind of weather. I think it turned out well.
Release date: April 26, 2023
"If you forgive those who sin agains yes, your heavenly Father will forgive you." Matt. 6:14 NLT
My final Wednesday night lesson at Memorial Church centered on forgiveness, why God forgave us, and why we need to forgive others. This is a drawing I created before the meeting to represent the theme of the lesson.
Release date: April 21, 2023
"That whistle...I recognize that whistle... B-Blues...?!"
Mega Man 3 introduced the character Proto Man, also known as Blues, to the series. He was the prototype robot that Dr. Light made, but when his power core began to fail, Proto Man fled before Dr. Light could fix it. He was worried that the repairs would erase his personality.
This drawing is inspired by the ending of Mega Man 3, where it was revealed that Proto Man is Mega Man's older brother.
Release date: April 12, 2023
"MegaMan.EXE, Battle Routine, Set! Execute!"
Since the Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection releases on April 14, I drew this picture to celebrate the Mega Man Battle Network series. Depicted is MegaMan.EXE, Lan Hikari's NetNavi, fighting a group of Mettaur viruses. The background and PET design are based on Mega Man Battle Network 3, which is my favorite game in the series so far (I haven't played many of them yet).
Release date: April 5, 2023
This is a bookend drawing I did for Memorial Church's youth group Easter gathering, meant for in between lesson images or throughout the evening.
Release date: April 5, 2023
“Then Jesus spoke to the leading priests, the captains of the Temple guard, and the elders who had come for him. “Am I some dangerous revolutionary,” he asked, “that you come with swords and clubs to arrest me? Why didn’t you arrest me in the Temple? I was there every day. But this is your moment, the time when the power of darkness reigns.”” Luke 22:52-53 NLT
This is the first of five drawings I did for Memorial Church's youth group Easter gathering. Depicted is Jesus being arrested by the Roman guards in the presence of the priests. Judas is just off to Jesus's side, and the rest of the disciples are stunned by what is happening.
Release date: April 5, 2023
“...and they said, “Tell us, are you the Messiah?” But he replied, “If I tell you, you won’t believe me. And if I ask you a question, you won’t answer.” Luke 22:67-68 NLT
This is the second of five drawings I did for Memorial Church's youth group Easter gathering. This drawing depicts Jesus being interrogated by the high priest.
Release date: April 5, 2023
“When they came to a place called The Skull, they nailed him to the cross. And the criminals were also crucified—one on his right and one on his left.” Luke 23:33 NLT
This is the third of five drawings I did for Memorial Church's youth group Easter gathering. Jesus is depicted on the cross alongside the other two criminals that Luke mentions in his record of the Gospel.
Release date: April 5, 2023
“Then Jesus shouted, “Father, I entrust my spirit into your hands!” And with those words he breathed his last. When the Roman officer overseeing the execution saw what had happened, he worshiped God and said, “Surely this man was innocent.”” Luke 23:46-47 NLT
This is the fourth of five drawings I did for Memorial Church's youth group Easter gathering. To depict the sorrow felt when Jesus died, I drew a somber sky with silhouetted crosses.
Release date: April 5, 2023
“The women were terrified and bowed with their faces to the ground. Then the men asked, “Why are you looking among the dead for someone who is alive?” Luke 24:5 NLT
This is the last of five drawings I did for Memorial Church's youth group Easter gathering. This drawing depicts Jesus rising from the tomb where His body was laid, with the stone rolled away.
Release date: March 29, 2023
Sometimes we don’t understand why things happen. Sometimes we still can’t process it. But that’s how we find ourselves in the butterfly garden.
I drew this piece as an emotional response to the passing of a family member.
Release date: February 22, 2023
A few months ago, I finally sat down and listened to some of the music from the SEGA rhythm game Samba de Amigo. I ended up falling in love with one of the game's themes, "Vamos a Carnaval," and was inspired to draw titular character Amigo and his sister Amiga dancing. I put off the drawing for a few months because of upcoming holidays, but when the announcement of Samba de Amigo: Party Central for Nintendo Switch dropped, I knew I had to finish this drawing.
This artwork is based directly on Samba de Amigo: Ver. 2000, specifically the stage where the song "Vamos a Carnaval" first appears.
Release date: February 4, 2023
I was inspired by a (likely digital) watercolor painting I saw on my Twitter feed, so I decided to try an almost entirely watercolor painting of my own. The first thought I had was an underwater dive, so I whipped together a background featuring coral and a few fish. I spent the most time drawing myself because I was having trouble with the watercolor paint not looking like I had imagined, but I made it work regardless.
Release date: February 2, 2023
With a new profile picture comes a new banner. This year's theme of moving forward means I'm dragging all my characters with me. Here's to a strong 2023!
Release date: January 25, 2023
Based on the game ChuChu Rocket!, I drew a ChuChu (the titular space mouse) sneaking away from a KapuKapu (a space cat) as he tries to reach the rocket, the foundation of the game.
Release date: January 24, 2023
Another vent artwork to pour my emotions into. To avoid fully personalizing the issue, I used the human form of Wausau Fernsby (from my comic strip Wausau and Jackson) and experimented with 3D-esque scaling of the floor texture.
Release date: January 18, 2023
My theme for this year is "looking forward." New horizons await as God prepares me for what's to come, and I need to be ready. I choose to keep looking ahead to meet the future face-to-face.
Release date: January 18, 2023
I am looking forward. I don't really know where things will go in the future, but I know that I have to keep moving. Hard to say what will happen, but that's just part of the deal.
Release date: January 14, 2023
"Life was missing its flow, the Chaos Emeralds had lost their glow… And then, out of the blue, I saw a phone, and BAM! My destiny was born!"
An artist I follow on Twitter (@SailorSonicX) posted the lyrics and theme song video to the PBS Kids program Fetch! with Ruff Ruffman as a nostalgia memory, and it inspired me to draw this parody image with Knuckles the Echidna from the Sonic the Hedgehog series as the face of "Oh No! with Knuckles the Echidna."
Release date: January 12, 2023
"None of that for me, thanks. I’m content with the way I’ve been doing things."
I don't jump on popular trends unless I have to. Thus, I drew this piece to solidify my rejection of popular things, such as TikTok, Discord, Reddit, and the rise of AI-generated imagery (which is NOT artwork, thank you for asking).
Release date: January 2, 2023
One year after launching the comic strip, I decided to update the official artwork of The Artist and His Brain to better reflect the comic's artwork at that point.
Release date: December 31, 2022
This is the thumbnail art I drew for my YouTube review of Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast.
Release date: December 15, 2022
I typically draw a winter-themed self-portrait for winter. However, this year I decided to wait until the middle of December to do it.
Oops.
Release date: December 11, 2022
In the depths of Angel Island, Sonic and Tails discover the frozen landscapes of IceCap Zone.
With winter arriving, I wanted to draw something with snow. I drafted a drawing of IceCap Zone from Sonic 3 & Knuckles in preparation for winter, but the reason it released so late into the month was because I fell ill. I'm still not fully recovered, but I pushed through and finished the drawing anyway.
Release date: November 24, 2022
To celebrate Thanksgiving, I drew all of my currently-used original characters gathering for a Thanksgiving meal. The staples of my family's Thanksgiving meal include turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and green beans with bacon.
Release date: November 20, 2022
"It's a Thanksgiving parade! Can you recognize the floats that are being paraded this year?"
In recognition of Thanksgiving coming up and in honor of the annual Macy's parade, I decided to draw my characters having their own parade to celebrate the occasion. There is a bit of symbolism: Ian (and Brain) struggling to hold on to the Wausau balloon by himself symbolizes my attempts to keep Wausau and Jackson going despite my struggles. The cast of Wausau and Jackson guiding the Maia balloon symbolizes how my experience making the comic led to the creation of those original characters (the series name is "Highs and Lows"). Then, my experience with "Highs and Lows" and drawing human characters led to that priority and creativity with The Artist and His Brain.
Release date: November 13, 2022
Two lovers under a starry night sky...Perhaps someday they will confess their feelings for each other.
Release date: November 5, 2022
November is the time for autumn leaves to fall off the trees in the U.S., so I drew Jackson, Katie, and Josh (from my comic strip Wausau and Jackson) playing in the fallen leaves.
Release date: October 30, 2022
I released a video review on the 1997/1998/2004/2005 game Sonic R, and this is the thumbnail art I drew for it.
Release date: October 19, 2022
I saw a retweet of an artist who had drawn Amy Rose and Rouge the Bat (from the Sonic the Hedgehog series) in the outfits of Roll Caskett and Tron Bonne from Mega Man Legends. The Mega Man Network's Twitter account, which retweeted it, asked if the reverse existed (Roll and Tron in Amy and Rouge's outfits). Someone already drew Tron Bonne in Rouge's outfit but nobody (at the time) found one of Roll dressed as Amy. I decided to draw it for The Mega Man Network, sharing the sketch the night of the post and finishing it a day later.
Release date: October 18, 2022
Some days I don't feel like doing anything except think about things. What kind of things? Many things. Things about life, things about future plans, things about relationships......things about The Artist and His Brain? I dunno.
Release date: October 11, 2022
It's a fun night out with friends! Bowling is one of my favorite activities, even though I'm not very good at it, so I wanted to draw my characters having a fun night out bowling. Well, at least Maia, Lenny, and Clover seem to be having fun. I'm not sure why Ralph is just chilling on his phone.
I originally drafted this sketch in early June and intended to finish it later that month. However, life happened and I didn't end up finishing it until October.
Release date: October 2, 2022
Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I is a game that most regard as mediocre or bad, but despite the criticism, I think the game has a bit of merit. I felt inspired after playing the game's first zone, Splash Hill Zone, a few times while working on Genesis covers of the music. Sonic looking cool and doing tricks might feel out of place in this Zone, but I wanted to draw it anyway.
This is part of my Sonic Level Series of artworks, where I draw either my favorite levels or iconic levels from Sonic games. For as bare-bones as Sonic 4: Episode I is, people remember Splash Hill Zone.
Release date: October 1, 2022
For September, I made a video attempting to play 8 different Rayman games without collecting a Lum, Ting, Teensie, etc. This is the thumbnail I made for the video, however I was unable to finish it before the video released. Thus, the release date of this drawing is one day later than the actual video, which released on September 30.
Release date: September 20, 2022
I felt a very strong collection of emotions and needed to vent them somewhere, and my first thought was to draw Burning Blaze unleashing her flames all over the place. This is the result.
Release date: September 14, 2022
This was a spur of the moment drawing to overcome art block. I realized that I hadn't done much recently with one of my original characters, Chumpkin, so I decided to send him to Mars to see how he'd react. A clever twist on the space-themed drawings I've been doing throughout the year, and I get to use Chumpkin in new stuff again.
Release date: August 30, 2022
In response to Sonic Origins' new Super Sonic theme for Sonic 3 & Knuckles, I decided to make my own arrangement for a Super Sonic theme. This is the thumbnail for the video I made talking about my process.
Release date: August 13, 2022
One night I was listening to some ice-level music from games like Ristar and decided to draw an icy landscape I thought of in the moment. For this piece I attempted a lineless process, leaving just colors and shading with no lineart in sight.
Release date: August 9, 2022
I was going through a rough emotional patch one night, and when I picked up my iPad and Apple Pencil, this drawing was the result of it. I think it helped cure my bad mood by giving me an outlet to express how I was feeling.
I promise I'm feeling better now.
Release date: July 31, 2022
This is the thumbnail artwork I created for my "PopCap Games Collection" YouTube video. It features characters and objects from Bookworm, Zuma, AstroPop, Atomica, Big Money!, Chuzzle, Dynomite!, Insaniquarium, Typer Shark!, and Peggle, while the background is inspired by Peggle.
Release date: June 29, 2022
I "camped" with my family while visiting relatives in the US, and we could see the Big Dipper in the night sky. I decided to draw that moment.
Release date: June 23, 2022
To celebrate Sonic the Hedgehog's 31st anniversary, I drew the iconic ending scene from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on the SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive. Tails uses Sonic's plane, the Tornado, to catch Sonic after he destroyed the Death Egg.
Granted, the Death Egg isn't fully destroyed and falls onto Angel Island, but let's give Sonic this victory. He fully destroys the Death Egg in Sonic 3 & Knuckles anyway.
Release date: May 31, 2022
This is the thumbnail art for my video "PC Games I Played as a Kid" uploaded to my ArtisIan channel.
Release date: May 30, 2022
I felt the need to update the artwork I use for my ArtisIan YouTube channel, since the artwork I used for the profile picture and end cards dates back to late 2019. This is the new artwork I made to replace it.
Release date: May 24, 2022
Imagine what the surface (if you can call it that) of Saturn would look like. I wonder if it's anything like this?
Also featuring Saturn's biggest moon, Titan.
Release date: May 18, 2022
This is an insanely late 30th anniversary drawing in honor of Kirby, whose first game (Kirby's Dream Land) came out in 1992. This scene contains elements from every level in the game to celebrate the game as a whole.
Release date: May 10, 2022
I felt inspired after replaying Sonic 3 & Knuckles to draw this mid-climax scene in the game. Sonic and Tails are racing to stop the Death Egg from launching, and Knuckles, who still thinks Sonic is trying to steal the Master Emerald, is racing to stop them.
Release date: May 7, 2022
I recently went on vacation, and our room had an amazing view of the Saigon River. I felt inspired to draw this.
Release date: May 2, 2022
Tails flies to a Friendly's for some Mint Cookie Crunch ice cream
This was in response to the "Sonic characters at the mall" meme going around.
Release date: April 27, 2022
Inspired by the recent Sonic 2 movie and replaying Sonic 3 & Knuckles, I decided to draw Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles in their Super forms. They appear above their planet both to signify themselves as the protectors of the people below and as a reference to Sonic 3 & Knuckles' true final stage, Doomsday Zone.
Release date: April 26, 2022
I nearly said "Big the Frog" instead of "Big the Cat" the other day, and, well, this is the result.
Release date: April 21, 2022
Procreate, the app I use to draw, runs weekly “Art Mash” challenges with three prompts that the artist tries to mash together.
This prompt was “Carnival,” “Vlogger,” and “Spatula.” This is what I did. Meet Flippy the Spatula!
Release date: April 20, 2022
I recently felt in the mood to draw something from Mega Man 7, so I drew Mega Man fighting the Robot Master I typically pick first: Freeze Man. The scenery is the boss room in which they fight in the game.
Release date: April 15, 2022
April 15 is the day I went with my youth group to see the movie Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in theaters. This is a drawing I made to commemorate the moment.
The emblem is based on the title screen of the game Sonic the Hedgehog 2, while the background is based on the most recent posters.

I decided to draw Saturn and its moon Titan randomly one day.
Really, that's it.
Release date: April 1, 2022

Release date: March 31, 2022
My YouTube video for March 2022 was an overview of Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania, a remake of the first two Super Monkey Ball games. This is the thumbnail art I drew for the video.
Release date: March 11, 2022
Sonic and Amy Rose. The cutest couple that never was, right? This drawing basically sums up their dynamic: Sonic wants to be free in the wind, and Amy wants Sonic to be her lover. Her heart's been swept away in the wind, but we're waiting to see if Sonic will catch it.
Release date: March 4, 2022
I was amazed at the grand scale of Jupiter, so I imagined what the view might look like from one of its moons, in this case Ganymede.
Release date: February 25, 2022
I made a YouTube video teaching people how to play Sonic Riders since the game has a steep learning curve. This is the thumbnail art I drew for the video.
Release date: February 16, 2022
I played a game from the SEGA Genesis called Ristar when I was a kid. I still have yet to beat it, but the look and feel of the game was so charming that I felt like drawing a piece based on it. Ristar is seen shooting through space on his way to the ice world Planet Freon, shown in the background. This scene is based on the Boss Clear screens from the game, where Ristar is shown traveling from planet to planet.
Release date: February 11, 2022
The upcoming game Kirby and the Forgotten Land recently had a new trailer that showcased "Mouthful Mode," where Kirby would wrap his mouth around an object and control it. Some of the showcased objects Kirby can interact with include a car, a vending machine, and a traffic cone. The Internet decided to take advantage of it and created new forms for Kirby to control. I decided that the memes weren't quite "out of the box" enough, so I drew Kirby with his mouth full of a water cooler. Why not, right?
Release date: February 2, 2022
I asked for suggestions on my Twitter about which 6 Sonic characters I should draw. This is the result. Pictured in order are Mecha Sonic (from Sonic 3 & Knuckles), Bark the Polar Bear (from Sonic the Fighters), Silver the Hedgehog (from Sonic 2006), Tails, Big the Cat and Froggy (from Sonic Adventure), and Da Bears (Mad Mike and Big Griz from the TV series Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog).
The template used here is based on a general 6 fanart template by Twitter user mcapriglioneart.

Release date: January 20, 2022
"Despite everything the Empire has done...there will always be hope!"
While suffering the side effects of a Covid vaccine, I rewatched Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. A few days afterwards, I became inspired to do a spontaneous Star Wars-themed drawing. This is an original (currently unnamed) character on an unnamed planet surrounded by Stormtroopers. This particular scene would take place between the end of the Clone Wars and Episode IV: A New Hope.
Release date: January 8, 2022
I have been regaining my interest in astronomy after the New Horizons probe sent back photos of Pluto. I also wanted to expand my artistic abilities to making landscapes, not just characters. This seemed like the perfect experiment. I imagined what the surface of the planet Neptune could look like, and this is the result.
Release date: January 5, 2022
To start the new year (and once again test my new iPad), I drew a new icon for myself. The background is a grid similar to the one Procreate uses when an image is transparent. I did this as both a subtle homage to the software and a contrast to the light colored grids of The Artist and His Brain's artwork.
Perhaps this is the return of my habit of drawing a new profile picture every year.
Release date: January 2, 2022
After finishing Wausau and Jackson, I announced a new comic strip called "The Artist and His Brain." It's a comedic tale of an artist who has to live with the worst roommate ever, that being his own brain. This was the picture I used to announce the comic, which uses materials that make the banners and icon for the comic on sites like Tapas and Webtoon.
Release date: January 2, 2022
Baby Park is one of my favorite Mario Kart tracks, so I decided to draw this picture honoring its chaotic nature. This is a mixture of Mario Kart: Double Dash!! and Mario Kart 8 elements since the track appeared in both of those games.
Release date: December 31, 2021
To celebrate the new year (and get used to a new iPad for drawing), I drew my characters celebrating New Year's the best way they know how: running through the fields as a group.
Why they didn't just go sing karaoke, I don't know. Ralph clearly isn't enjoying himself.
Release date: December 30, 2021
Sonic Forces, released in 2017, was a bit of a disappointment for me, and I wish there was more and better content than was given. However, the concept behind it was, in my opinion, sound. I decided to draw the trio of playable characters: Sonic, Classic Sonic, and the player's custom avatar. Deviating away from the possibilities in the game's character creator, I inserted my Sonic-styled avatar as the custom character.
Release date: December 23, 2021
I originally planned this as an entry to Procreate's "artmash" challenges, which give artists a prompt to draw from. I chose the prompt "cup of tea," drawing my characters (from the left, Maia and Lenny) enjoying a cup of tea next to a window showing the winter snow outside. Since I got too busy to finish the drawing in time for the artmash, I decided to take my time and release it anyway.
Release date: December 12, 2021
"He's the Dethemberween Thnikkaman, out to make your dreams come true!"
This drawing was a spontaneous drawing based on the Homestar Runner cartoon "Happy Dethemberween." In it, Strong Bad tells the tale of the "Dethemberween Thnikkaman," who turns Decemberween (their version of Christmas) into "Dethemberween," borrows people's hedge clippers and leaves blank media in their slippers.
In reality, it was just Bubs with a piece of paper taped to his chest with "TH" written on it.
Release date: December 9, 2021
I hadn't drawn a new profile picture in 18 months, so I made a new one for Christmas. The sweater I'm wearing is based on a sweater I used to wear as a teenager; I got it in Sydney, Australia while my family was visiting.
Release date: December 1, 2021
In one of my moments of deep thinking, I decided to project that thoughtfulness into my original characters.
Release date: November 9, 2021
I drew this pic of Miles "Tails" Prower from the Sonic series in response to the official Sonic Twitter calling for artists to quickly draw Tails from memory. I used no references in this drawing; this is my drawing of Tails from memory.
I wasn't very quick, though.
Release date: November 5, 2021
To update the branding for my comic strip, Wausau and Jackson, I drew a new background and these portraits of Wausau Fernsby and Jackson Reid. The elements are separate, but for this picture I put them together. This is currently the basis for the profile pictures and cover art on sites where the comic strip can be read.
Release date: October 27, 2021
Back in 2020 I began a drawing of Sonic and Blaze from the Nintendo DS game Sonic Rush. However, I began to distance myself from the Sonic community during this time, so I lost my incentive to finish it. I found it in October of 2021 and felt the urge to finish it. The background is Water Palace, my favorite level from Rush.
This is the second draft from 2020 that I've gone back and finished, the first being "Beanbean Adventures."
This is part of my Sonic Level Series of artworks, and is the first handheld zone I have drawn.
Release date: October 8, 2021
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania, a remake of Super Monkey Ball 1, 2 and Deluxe, had just released on October 5, and I realized that I never drew anything to celebrate. I also never drew the Monkey Ball cast before, so I did some sketches to finalize my style for them before beginning. The level in the background is from Super Monkey Ball 2, and featured are the original 4 monkeys: AiAi, MeeMee, Baby, and GonGon.
Release date: September 26, 2021
Last year I drew an ensemble picture of the main cast from Azumanga Daioh, my favorite manga/anime. However, I only drew the students. The series also follows two teachers, Yukari Tanizaki and Minamo "Nyamo" Kurosawa. I wondered what would happen if Yukari found out that I drew the students and not her, and this drawing was the result of that.
Release date: September 25, 2021
I wanted to try drawing something with an original character again, and to be perfectly honest, Maia is my favorite of my original characters outside of Wausau and Jackson. I decided to draw her looking out at a mountainous view, showing her love for nature and my own desire to actually get outside (Ho Chi Minh City was still in hard lockdown during this time).
Release date: September 8, 2021
In early September SEGA released an Early Access version of Sonic Colors Ultimate, an enhanced port of the Wii game Sonic Colors, to PS4/5, Xbox One/Series, PC and Nintendo Switch. Unfortunately, all versions of the game suffered terrible bugs, with the Switch version getting a massive memory leak that corrupted the graphics. One of the dozens of glitches would turn Sonic into a weird fish. I decided to redraw that fish, which I completed in one sitting and published the same night.
Release date: September 3, 2021
The very first RPG I ever played was Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga on the GameBoy Advance. I wanted to draw a tribute to an iconic part of the game where the Mario Bros. enter the Beanbean Outskirts for the first time.
This particular drawing was started in November of 2020, and put off until I resumed work on it in August 2021, nearly a year later, when I started replaying the game.
Release date: August 22, 2021
Inspiration hit me while listening to some video game soundtracks, so I decided to take a stab at drawing a scene from Mega Man 6. Wind Man is the boss I typically choose first when I play the game, so he (and the stage itself) is very memorable to me.
Release date: August 20, 2021
While playing an online drawing game with some friends, one of the prompts a friend was given was "Bomberman." Unfortunately, the picture they drew looked NOTHING like Bomberman, so I vowed to draw a proper illustration of Bomberman. And this is it.
Release date: August 1, 2021
YouTuber redhotsonic commissioned this artwork from me for his video regarding glitches in the Game Gear version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. He requested Sonic hold a Game Gear (that he would glitch himself) in front of the background for Sonic 2's bad ending. I sent him the image as-is, and he added glitch filters to it before publishing.
Release date: July 18, 2021
"I can draw whatever I want, right?" That's what I asked myself before beginning this drawing. I felt that beacuse I am an artist with power over my own account, if I want to draw the characters from some obscure Dreamcast racing game, then I can. So this is the entire cast of the game PenPen TriIceLon, released only on Dreamcast.
I previously drew Jaw, the PenShark, as part of a parody in my review of the game. The parody in question was of TROGDOR from Homestar Runner.
Release date: July 18, 2021
YouTuber redhotsonic is known for his "But Does It Work On Real Hardware" (or "BDIWORH") videos, where he tests mainly Sonic ROM hacks to see if they actually work on a real Genesis/Sega CD/32X. He needed a thumbnail drawn for his then-upcoming Mario-themed episode. I volunteered, and he and I got to discussing afterwards. He commissioned art featuring Mario guarding an NES from the pursuing Luigi, Pepsiman and Flappy Bird, the subjects of his Mario hack video. Sonic is moping in the background because, as RHS put it himself, "this episode's not about him."
Release date: July 10, 2021
YouTuber redhotsonic wanted a thumbnail for an upcoming Sonic Heroes video. I was already working with him on a thumbnail for his next BDIWORH video, so I accepted the extra opportunity. It was a simpler thumbnail, which worked out because he needed this one much quicker. Sonic Heroes was a game that I grew up playing on both GameCube and PC, so I was more than happy to draw something related to it.
Creation date: July 1, 2021
I had not created new artwork for my ArtisIan YouTube channel since the end of 2019 and beginning of 2020, so I decided to go back and update the artwork. I eventually updated the banner to use this artwork.
Release date: June 29, 2021
"Talk about low budget flights! No food or movies?! I'm outta here!"
I felt bad for missing Sonic Adventure 2's anniversary (June 19) due to school and burnout, so I redrew an iconic scene from the opening cutscene of the game's Hero story after releasing "Unstoppable." In this scene, Sonic had been wrongfully arrested for the theft of a Chaos Emerald, so he decides to escape and search for his look-a-like, later revealed to be Shadow the Hedgehog. I grew up playing Sonic Adventure 2 Battle on the GameCube at a friend's house before buying the PC port in 2013, so this game is a big part of my childhood (although I played Sonic Adventure 1 way more).
Release date: June 26, 2021
"Let’s face it: my animation back in 2015, despite having other characters, was really about these two. XD"
I've wanted to draw more pictures with these characters, especially since I haven't been able to create the sequel to the cartoon they originated from for various reasons. I realized that the original cartoon (and the script for the sequel) is really about these two characters, so I drew this to give them the spotlight.
Release date: June 23, 2021
June 23, 2021 marked the 30th anniversary of the Sonic the Hedgehog game series, so I drew this to commemorate that. The styles featured are Classic Sonic (from the Genesis games and Mania), Modern Sonic (styled after the Adventure games) and Sonic Boom (the 2014 spinoff). The levels pictured behind the different Sonics are Green Hill (from the first Sonic game), Emerald Coast (the opening stage of Sonic Adventure) and Aquarium Park (my favorite level from Sonic Colors). Sonic has been around for 30 years and is still going strong, which is why he is unstoppable.
Creation date: June 21, 2021
I was working on a remake of one of my older video game projects, "Super Chumpkin Adventures," and decided to make a new icon. This is the artwork used for the icon, which is placed upon a background used from the game for the macOS icon. As of publishing, the remade game is not yet available to the public.
Chumpkin is a strange little creature hailing from Front Door Land, and in the aforementioned game, he is on the hunt for his lost pizza. The game is a 2D platformer with physics elements and was originally made for the "Indies vs. PewDiePie" Game Jam in late 2013, utilizing the Unity engine. The remake uses the Godot engine instead.
Release date: June 2, 2021
"Don’t forget to take a break once in a while!"
When refreshing my commission sheet for 2021, I needed a new example for flat shaded artwork since the previous artwork was aging, so I drew a sleeping Toad from Super Mario Bros. I also included a message for viewers to take care of themselves and rest in between working hours, since overworking can lead to various problems, as I have experienced myself.
Release date: May 28, 2021
I remembered a piece of artwork depicting Sonic and Shadow playfully bantering with each other's Chao (based on Sonic Adventure 2), so I wanted to recreate that artwork based on my "Rayman in SA2" mod from nearly two years prior. Just like the mod, Rayman replaces Sonic and Raymesis replaces Shadow, and I decided to have a Lum, Electoon and Darktoon replace the normal, Hero and Dark Chao, respectively. Originally, they were all going to be Electoons, but I quickly realized there were better replacements I could use. As with the previous Rayman in SA2 artwork, this is done in the style of SEGA artist Yuji Uekawa.
Release date: May 15, 2021
Since summer vacation was coming up soon for school students, I wanted to draw this picture to give some cheery perspective to a world still ravaged by Covid-19. There shouldn't be doom and gloom all the time, right?
The characters pictured are my original characters (OCs) who originated from a cartoon I made in 2015 called "Life is a Test" (with an additional character in the background that I created later).
Release date: March 31, 2021
I drew this to commemorate the end of Super Mario Bros.' 35th anniversary celebrations (in particular the end of Super Mario 3D All-Stars' run). The big joke on Twitter was that Mario "died" that day, so I drew a role-reversal of Super Mario 64's boss battles against Bowser.
Release date: March 19, 2021
These two characters are original characters (OCs) I created several years back, and one day I felt that I hadn't drawn them in a long time. Thus, I drew this. My characters are judging me for not drawing them in so long yet promising to.
Release date: August 15, 2020
"I don't mind wearing a face mask, I really don't. However..."
I wanted to draw this picture to shed some humor on the unfortunate situation of needing to wear face masks wherever we go.
I think it worked.
Release date: August 10, 2020
ArtisIan Music is a secondary YouTube channel I run that is dedicated to chiptune covers of various video game songs. This is the artwork I made to act as both the profile picture and banner art for the channel.
Release date: August 5, 2020
Azumanga Daioh is my favorite anime, so I wanted for a long while to draw fanart of the show. I drew the main cast (minus the teachers and including Kaorin) over a flowery background reminiscent of the credits of the show itself. This was one of my favorite pieces to draw.
Release date: July 14, 2020
I created a modification of Sonic Adventure 2 Battle that replaces Sonic and Shadow with Rayman and Raymesis, using the models from Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc. These are the drawings I made to accompany the mod: Yuji Uekawa-styled depictions of Rayman and Raymesis in the poses of Sonic and Shadow from the original game.
Release date: July 9, 2020
This was a commission from a Twitter user, communicated shortly after I reopened my commissions with an updated sheet. The client asked for a shiny Umbreon (from the Pokémon series) clothed in Monster Hunter attire with weapons and utilities from the same game.
Release date: July 1, 2020
I typically draw a new profile picture for myself every year, but the previous year I did not. Thus, I spent time making a proper self-portrait that, as of now, is still my current profile picture.
Release date: June 30, 2020
I originally drew this as an example of just lineart for my commission sheet. This is one of my characters, Lenny, walking along and humming, minding his own business.
Release date: May 22, 2020
Several Twitter users began a viral "redraw" trend where artists had to take a screenshot from the Sailor Moon anime and redraw the scene in their art style. I decided to interpret it as a screenshot in the style of Wausau and Jackson, which is my comic strip.
Release date: March 2, 2020
I was bored during the pandemic and decided to draw one of my original characters, Maia, waking up from a deep sleep. I do not believe she is actually a morning person.
Release date: February 27, 2020
After the release of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie, I wanted to draw the movie's design for the blue blur. The pose was a quick thought, but I wanted to emphasize the detail of his fur like the movie did.
Release date: January 19, 2020
This drawing started as a little joke, but I decided to make it a proper drawing. I use it as an example of shaded artwork on my commission sheet.
Release date: January 8, 2020
While dealing with art block, I asked my Twitter followers what I should draw. Someone suggested CatDog, from the Nickelodeon show of the same name, and this was the result.
Release date: January 3, 2020
"When you awaken...DESTROY SONIC!"
This was the drawing that pulled me out of art block and helped me realize that I did not need to be 100% accurate to still produce a quality drawing. I also wanted to test more of Procreate's brushes, hence the fiery background.
Release date: January 1, 2020
When I properly launched my rebooted YouTube channel as ArtisIan, I needed some artwork for the banner, so I prepared this drawing.
Release date: December 19, 2019
I made this artwork for two reasons. First, I wanted to continue on from my Diamond Dust Zone drawing and make a series of illustrations based on Sonic levels. Second, I wanted to test the drawing app Procreate, which I had bought earlier in the year but not really used yet. I feel this was a good exercise because it convinced me to switch to Procreate for all artwork moving forward.
This is the second drawing of my Sonic Level Series, where I draw my favorite zones from Sonic games. This is the first time I drew a level from a 3D Sonic game.
Release date: December 12, 2019
I was following the Cartoon Network show OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes since its debut, and its finale aired earlier that year. I intended to have this drawing ready closer to the actual finale's release, but I became distracted with other things, so I did not finish it until December. The creator saw the picture and expressed his thanks, and that was a welcome reaction!
Release date: November 7, 2019
I planned to reboot my YouTube channel with a new name and avatar, and since I had drawn my previous avatar (SpeedySpikes) in Yuji Uekawa's style, I wanted to do the same thing with my new avatar, ArtisIan. This is the drawing that is still used as the channel's icon.
Release date: September 20, 2019
I had been developing this piece for most of 2019, as I wanted to start drawing the levels I enjoyed from various Sonic games, but I hit major art block in the middle of the year. Outside of Wausau and Jackson, it was difficult for me to draw any big pieces like this one. I got some helpful feedback from some close friends of mine that encouraged me to finish the piece, and I released it. It is still one of my proudest works, even though I can see the flaws.
This is the first of my Sonic Level Series artworks, where I draw my favorite zones.
Release date: August 10, 2019
I reopened my art commissions because I wanted to raise money for a replacement laptop after mine sustained water damage. A friend of mine commissioned this drawing of their original character in the pose of Freiza from Dragonball Z. I know next to nothing about DBZ, but I was grateful that the commissioner gave all the details I needed to make this piece.
Release date: June 23, 2019
Sonic the Hedgehog is a series I hold dear to my heart, so I usually honor his birthday with a drawing or design. This time, I drew both Classic and Modern Sonic together, with Sonic clothed in a robe and crown that is traditional, I believe? The official artwork depicted him in this outfit, so I followed suit.
Release date: June 22, 2019
I was experimenting with Yuji Uekawa's shading style, so I drew Jackson (from Wausau and Jackson) in that style. I think it turned out pretty good, but I feel the character design doesn't completely fit the art style.
Release date: June 18, 2019
I love Sonic Adventure. Very much. However, I have gotten tired of the mostly-baseless criticism it gets, so I decided to draw myself properly defending the original Dreamcast game. I have little to say on the DX ports to GameCube and PC. Perhaps next time I can draw myself in a court room acting as Sonic Adventure's lawyer? There will be a time for that.
Release date: March 28, 2019
A coworker at Sonic Legacy poked me for a commission of her original character named Talitha. She is from an original comic that is still being worked on. I agreed, and we exchanged some laughs when talking about how complex her design was. I took it like a champ.
Release date: March 27, 2019
The owner of this character was the first person to commission me, and they specifically requested I draw her in the Wausau and Jackson style (she is a Sonic fan character). It was an interesting challenge, and I feel the drawing came out very well!
Release date: March 27, 2019
The fancomic Sonic Legacy's staff banded together to make several T-shirt designs based on Legacy-exclusive characters, including Tempest the Dolphin (who is pictured here). I wanted to show Tempest reading Sonic Legacy itself, but I worried that it would be too complicated both for me to draw and to print on the shirts.
Release date: March 12, 2019
This was a gift drawing for one of my friends in Sonic Paradox. I drew their fan character, Maple the Red Panda, in Yuji Uekawa's art style, which I had been experimenting with weeks prior.
Release date: January 28, 2019
As one of my experiments with Yuji Uekawa's shading style, I recolored a previous drawing I made of my then-YouTube icon, SpeedySpikes, in that style. I would use it as the profile picture and thumbnail icon until I rebranded as ArtisIan the following year.
Release date: January 21, 2019
This was an example of pastel shading (which I have since discontinued) on my original commission sheet. Mighty the Armadillo is a character from the Sonic the Hedgehog series who had recently been brought back for the game Sonic Mania Plus.
Release date: January 21, 2019
This was an example of cel shading on my original commission sheet. Pikachu is arguably the most famous Pokémon because of his active role in the TV show.
Release date: January 21, 2019
This was an example of cel shading on my original commission sheet. May is the female trainer from the third generation of Pokémon games as well as Ash's companion in the TV adaptation of those games.
Release date: January 21, 2019
This was an example of two characters that would not cost additional on my commission sheet. Cream and Cheese hail from the Sonic the Hedgehog series, making their introduction in the GameBoy Advance game Sonic Advance 2. I recolored and reused this drawing in future updates to my commission sheet.
Release date: January 10, 2019
I had drawn this previously as an exercise of my drawing abilities, and decided to include it in my original commission sheet.
Release date: January 14, 2019
I wanted to honor the release of the then-new ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove video game, so for the first time I drew the titular characters.
Release date: Unknown, 2019
"'Come back to Smash,' they said. 'It'll be fun,' they said."
Sonic Legacy decided to make short comic strips called "Debug Mode," which I decided to jump on and contribute to. This is the only one I completed, and the inks were handed off to a colorist on the team. It is a reference to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's story mode, where the fighters were all turned into spirits.
Release date: December 25, 2018
I wanted to make a Christmas poster using all the characters I had publicly shown on my social media so far, so this is what I drew. I gave the human characters a different shading style to differentiate them from the Wausau and Jackson crew (though now both styles have merged into one soft-shaded style).
Release date: December 22, 2018
While I was working for Sonic Paradox, I volunteered to create the Christmas artwork for their Instagram account. I was asked to include teasers for their then-to-be-released SEGA Shorts project, so behind Sonic, Tails and Knuckles, I included references to ChuChu Rocket!, Golden Axe, Vectorman, Super Monkey Ball and Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg, which are other SEGA properties.
Release date: December 4, 2018
A little early Christmas gag I decided to draw for Wausau and Jackson. Since Wausau is green, just like the Grinch, I had the two dress up as the Grinch and his dog Max. This also acted as a small (not subtle) advertisement for my comic strip, which was in its first year.
Release date: October 18, 2018
I was inspired by the video game Cuphead and wanted to see how one of my characters would look in the 1930's rubber-hose style, akin to classic Mickey Mouse cartoons. Thus, I took Jackson (from Wausau and Jackson) and gave him a rubber-hose makeover.
Release date: August 3, 2018
I typically make a new profile picture every year, and this one was no exception. At the time, I was toying around with different methods of shading my pictures, so I tried a pastel-style shade with this picture.
Release date: April 17, 2018
The Sonic Paradox team's Instagram manager was looking for new artwork, so I pitched a drawing about how Eggman hates mondays. This is the result. Eggman is dressed in the pajamas found in his concept artwork (when he was potentially going to be the hero of the series).
Release date: April 9, 2018
After downloading FireAlpaca, an alternative to the memory-hogging MediBang Paint that shares the same file format, I wanted to draw some test sketches. This sketch, of Mega Man, came out the best.
Release date: February 14, 2018
I wanted to draw something for Valentine's Day, so I drew Jackson and his best friend Katie. This predates the 2018+ comic strip series and is set in the universe of my cancelled graphic novel Wausau and Jackson Adventures.
Release date: February 12, 2018
To test the possibility of making "speed-paint" videos on YouTube, I drew Super Sonic while recording my entire process. I currently cannot locate the video itself, but this is the final piece.
Release date: February 5, 2018
Each year I would redraw my avatar as I developed my art style. This is the 2018 version of my previous avatar "SpeedySpikes," which my YouTube channel was named after until I rebranded in 2020. The only change I would make in the future is to add a hood to his jacket.
