Wausau and Jackson is a web comic strip authored by digital illustrator Ian Schwabe. Its roots begin in 2007 while Schwabe was in middle school. A select number of Schwabe's older comics are available here to read under the "Old Stuff" section in the navbar. After many years, some refinements to the formula and a massive redesign of the characters, the series officially launched as a webcomic on August 20, 2018 on tapas.io. A few months later, the series debuted on Webtoon, with regular Instagram posts emerging soon afterward.
The series typically follows a 6-panel format, inspired by the likes of Garfield and Calvin and Hobbes in layout and storytelling. Starting in 2021, there will occasionally be 3-panel "MINI" comics that either celebrate important days or tie into a previous comic.
The two main characters are Wausau Fernsby and Jackson Reid. Wausau is a network engineer working at Ajax Networking. He is 27 years old and acts as the legal guardian of Jackson. Jackson is a 12-year-old rambunctious teenager who gives Wausau a run for his money. Additional cast members include Pete Bush, a pizza cook who yearns to adventure the world, Max Baker, a skunk who does everything obsessively and compulsively, Fluffy Thompson, a very naive bunny who has a narrow view of the world, Katie Gracelyn, Jackson's incredibly smart best friend, and Josh, Jackson's other friend who tends to be mischevious instead of studying.
The current series, available to read on this site, began on August 20, 2018 and is set to conclude on January 1, 2022.
