In 2016, Wausau and Jackson was given a short-lived reboot. It was an attempt to adapt the characters and series to a comic book format after Ian Schwabe (the author) mistakenly felt comic strips were a dying form. Thus, the reboot was just called "Wausau and Jackson." After one chapter of a planned 4-part story, it was abandoned in favor of modernizing the original comic strip concept. Despite it not lasting more than a chapter, it is the origin of the designs for Wausau and Jackson that matured and are still used today.
In this story, both Wausau and Jackson were to be lured into traps by a scientist named Dr. Blank, who wanted to turn them against each other and make Wausau spill the beans on a top secret software engineering project. They would be saved by the Alpha Squad, a secret group of agents working for the UN to track down and imprison internationally-dangerous criminals. Wausau and Jackson would then be escorted home by the Alpha Squad.
Presented below is the only completed chapter, renamed "Wausau and Jackson Adventures" in hindsight.
